Sianzoidal Waves

So I took a chance this morning and read the papers. And it left me irreversibly annoyed, as I suspected it would. There's this forum section in Life! that drew my attention and inevitably, my subsequent ire.

If you see a couple quarreling violently, would you step in to intervene? Well someone did, somewhere.. And apparently it became a big issue because this man intervened alone while other Singaporeans simply watched on and did nothing.

And while people are fraught with:
1. Reasons why these other people passively allowed the aggression to carry on
2. Reasons why violent displays of disaffection should not be intervened
3. What ways the Singaporean condition contributes to either behavior,
I'm thinking that this self-indulgence is what's most characteristic of Singaporeans essentially - The constant need to call in the entire nation for questioning when something doesn't stand well on your moral ground.

Why does every incident spark a discussion on why Singaporeans behave a certain way or in any specific manner? We are not and never will be ONE PEOPLE. We do not all have the same life experiences growing up, and we do not all have the same opportunities growing up. SO WHY THE CONSTANT NEED TO JUDGE? OMG.

And also, not everyone is civil, not everyone has the luxury of growing up well and developing the mental maturity to be civil. Our greatest flaw would be in expecting the same standard of civility from everyone around us. When we do so, we're in for a lifetime of pain and more importantly, we stop being good examples to people around us who are still learning to be civil and need guidance that doesn't seek to be repaid.
